Jet 200 - $1200

Postby wzm » Wed Jul 28, 2010 7:45 pm

I need to get rid of the 1974 Jet 200 that I bought last month. Is anyone interested?

Here's a list of the bad things about this bike: the headset bottom is broken, the kick starter is loose, and it's missing a throttle cable inner, the side panels are fiber glass, and the horncasting has a crack in it.

On the other hand, the engine was rebuilt about 5-7 years ago, and it was only taken off the road last year when the throttle cable snapped. None of the body panels (not even the fiberglass ones) are very rusty, and everything is pretty straight. It is registered in Georgia, but I am going to convert it to a Maryland title this Friday.

I got this bike at a pretty good price, but another scooter came along, so I'm passing my good deal on to someone else.

I'm asking $1200, which is about what I'm into this bike for. You can drop me a line here, or give me a call at (443)610-3469.

Pardon my Lambretta ignorance. Throttle cables are easy peasy to replace on a Vespa. Is it harder to replace on a Lammy? Are parts like the headset hard to find/ replace?

This scoot looks like it could be on the road without too much effort, and the price is superb. Am I missing something? Or better said, what's the catch?

Should mention ahead of time that I'm so broke I'm selling off a scoot to make ends meet and won't be able to buy this Jet 200. But under normal circumstances I'd probably jump at the chance to pick up a lammy that doesn't need much to get back on the road...

but then again, those have been "famous last words" for me more often than I'd care to admit to...

I'm racking my brain trying to find a rationalization to buy it, but I can't...

I actually like the fact that the side panels are fiberglass - those metal panels are pia to get back on. I had one fly off as I was riding.

I'm guessing the engine will need to be rebuilt soon?

The headset is somewhat hard to find. You can get new Indian ones, but there's a good chance you'll be buying one from England, because most US shops don't have them. Scooters Originali had one recently, and it may still be in stock. You would want a post-mod/non-chrome ring SX headset bottom for this bike. Luckily, they still make those in India.

The throttle cable is no big deal either, I think I have one to go with the bike.

I thought this would be my next project, but then an original SX200 got in the way of that plan, so this bike needs to go. I'm not trying to make money on it, and I don't want the hassle of shipping it, so it's listed locally, and not on Scoot.net or eBay.

Where are you in MD? I'd like to see it. I'm out of town this weekend, but depending where the bike is and your availability could meet you during the day next week.

It's a scooter, not a bike  You've been around those big wheeled things to much, they are starting to rub off on you Wells.

You are not putting your panel on correctly. Clip, clip, whach, whack, thump, is the official way to do it. :)

If it has two wheels it's a bike, if it has three wheels it's a trike, if it has four wheels it's something I've never owned.

What about the bikers that refer to their chromed-out Harleys as their scooters or the "Scooter Store" that advertises on TV?
