The thing I find really appalling is that very little east of the park and north of dupont has been plowed. I actually thought that Fenty had completely dropped the ball, but when I came in this morning, my boss said that they were plowing constantly on all the roads around his house (in Tenleytown). I"m just P'od at that Fenty Mofo - though I guess he knows who pays for his campaign. It sure aint scooterville.

i hate to ruin all the doom and gloom, but i'm really digging the snow (literally and figuratively). granted, i'm lucky in that i haven't had to go anywhere and my power hasn't gone out. i know i'd be singing a different tune in either of those cases...

don't get me wrong, I loved the snow, but then it turns to giant mushy dirty mounds, and patches of ice, and slushy water that you can't avoid stepping in. There are no metros or buses and the sidewalks are kind of messed up. And car after car is stranded spinning their wheels. The city looks like a complete disaster at this point. From your photos of the suburbs, it looks clean and white and largely undisturbed :D

That's cuz they haven't come back to clean up yet. I'm worried about when all this melts. Where's my rubber duckie?

You live on a street full of booze-swillng party parents and wild children. If you surrounded by brittle old folks and young couples with infants, y'might be whistlin' a different tune baby.

I have almost watched all the porn on the internet.

People can't drive. Hell people are too fucking stupid to even know how to get their cars out of their parking spots. I dug a 2-wheel drive out of a spot and went racing 4-wheel SUVs around. Twice I got sideways on I-66 coming back into DC - just for the hell of it. Nothing like throwing a car down an interstate sideways for a couple hundred yards then straightening it back up and laughing at all the idiots who slammed on their brakes in horror.

Some turd was stuck IN THE SNOW in a 4-wheel drive. I went on a snowbank in the car and around him. Then looked and saw it was a her and said "no wonder." Not to be completely sexist - 90% of the dudes I saw can't drive either. All going slow and careful and shit, no wonder you get stuck. Plow through it. It's easy if you know how to drive and recover from a slide.

Shit is fun. I just wish this car was rear wheel drive then I could really be having a blast. DC has been my own personal go-kart track for two days now.

The day I dug the car out I went around and dropped the tire pressure in each tire to 12psi. Some idiot asked me what I was doing "Letting the air out." "Why?" "To get traction." "Won't your tires blow out?" "If they would blow out why would I be letting the air out intentionally?"

I'm just pissed because I'm sick and miserable and can't go frolic in the snow.

(yes, I said "I" and "frolic" in the same sentence).

oh, that and I'm going to run out of cat food. new little guy is eating like a maniac. I've felt too shitty to dig the car out, but I'm thinking to maybe do it this morning so I can get out for provisions. I'm already out of chocolate, man!

You may be in luck with chocolate, forget about fresh vegetables. The Columbia Heights Giant looks like a supermarket in the Soviet Union in 1983.

Healthy Urban Hipsters -- The Giant in Greenbelt Mall had a tone of produce, but bacon, milk, cheese, soda and frozen pizza options were getting picked clean.

Metro sucks ("I'm not even supposed to be here today." - Dante).

And yeah, people can't drive. Nope, not at all. We had the car out a little Friday night when it was coming down and again yesterday, but I was done after a few miles. Other mofos raise the danger level too high for my tolerance.
Its a long walk through the city in the rain, its a long walk from train to train.

Same deal with Harris Teeter....Fortunately I did my shopping last week as the produce section was empty. I want to thank the true heroes of this snow storm - forget about the snow plow operators - its the liquor store owners. These people are completely unfazed by the snow. My little grocery even had strongbow stocked over the weekend.
