$660 & a bottle of canadian windsor will get you...

Postby fredneckscoots » Mon Mar 07, 2011 10:25 am

.. a pretty sweet 1980 p200 project. Looked at this schmaltzy rusted barn find in the rain on Sat and offered the guy $500. We settled on $660 and a bottle of Canadian Windsor. :)

Did a quick soap and water/clay bar drive by on it and it cleaned up really great. Other than some surface spots, the body is in great shape. Everything is 100% unmolested original complete with Lebanon Imported Car stickers still on it.

It wasn't until that night I hit it with the flash and the amazing greatness of the reflective "diver down" stripes revealed themselves. Too funny! Must have been owned by a fireman or something. It has a small homemade sticker that says "911" on it. Safety first! Woop woop.

Nice find. Certainly hard to argue with the cost of admission. Look forward to seeing it out and about.

I concur. $700'ish is a good price for a P200 project, especially if it ends up on the road without too much trouble. P's are great in that regard.

PS hit me up if you need a stereo kit on that beach!

Yeah, what up with that crash bar? It seems to be mounted in with the center stand and looks original to the scoot. I would guess the dealer installed it. Not sure what it really protects and it would appear to just get in the way. I have seen it before on p200's I think... but I suppose it could be off a small motorcycle.

Hell, if the motor's good, that's at least what you'd look to pay for a decent one, so def. nice find for the bucks.

Well.... it took nearly 2 years, but I did get this thing entirely tore down and then rebuilt. EVERYTHING got replaced aside from the bodywork and engine innards. I started to rebuild the engine only to find the cases were shot, and Icehoue ended up finishing the engine work for me. I ran a new harness, replaced the front fork (barn roof collapsed on scoot's front end at one point), new shocks, new digital speedo, new front hub, front brakes, new switches, new headlight, new rims, new tires, new seat, new newness. Got it all together for the last time tonight and everything works.

Thanks to Matt T. & Mike H. and everyone else for all the help. This is the first scooter I ever tried to bring back from oblivion with my own hands (aside from the engine). Stoked it all works!

Lovely job. Go and thrash to within an inch of it's life, it's what they are for :)
