Took a guy here a year... and during the wait he'd call and it would be busy 9-5. One day about a year out the title finally showed up.
no way to know what the hell was happening.

I used them a few years back and it was quick. nowadays who knows?

VT Registration Works for MD Titles...

Just wanted to give an update on the VT method...

I registered a bike in VT about a year ago... clean history but no title.

I took the registration to a MD tag and title agent last weekend. The agent processed everything in a few minutes, but they can't issue tags when there is no title for proof of ownership (i.e. a VT registration). The agent has to send the paperwork up to the MVA.

The following Wednesday, I stopped by to pick up the tags (historic). The title is in the mail.

If you can, avoid the extra fees and go right to the MVA. It costs about 75$ extra to use a tag and title agent.

MD fees are 100$ for a title, 51$ for registration of a historic bike, and whatever 6% of the sale price is for sales tax.

The VT registration runs about 44$ a year, so it costs roughly 300$ including a year of VT registration to get a MD title and two years of registration on a historic bike (assuming minimum sales tax). This avoids an inspection, so that will save 50$-80$. Subtract about 80$ bucks if you do the MVA legwork yourself.

Not worth it for some bikes, but with this one being such low milage, it was worth it to me to get the title. I don't plan to sell it, but I do ride it around town and this will also make it easier to trail ride without hassle (tagged bikes usually don't need permits on MD state owned ORV trails).

Just posting my results... your milage may vary.

Only the first year. I just renewed my historic VT tags for $16 for on year.

And now I'm about to go to CA and probably get killed in reg fees and red tape unless I just say fuck it and keep rocking the VT tags :)

Not only that, but you'll love buying that 1.1 million dollar two bedroom/1.5 bath 946ft/sq rambler, with it's rolling black outs and the IOU tax refunds from the state government.
