tile, a location device

Postby porter » Fri Jul 12, 2013 10:38 am

This little gadget could serve as a $20/year security device.
If your scooter gets stolen, any iphone near it will trigger its whereabouts, or if you are too stoopit/drunk to remember where your scooter is, it will tell you.

thoughts, downsides, other devious uses?

Downside? Only iOS supported and you'll need a tile commuty to make it useful. If your scooter is stolen and placed out of the 150' maximum range (more like 25'-50' when you consider that 150' is clear line of sight, and depending on where you locate it on your bike it may be far less just by being inside the frame) of other devices... If your bike is in a underground garage in south east, it'll likely never get pinged.

Seems like a decent idea, there are similar devices that use cellular network and gps receivers to give location (lojack is a major one) but there are others available. I think the tile work really well on a bicycle, since it's more likely to be out in the open in a neighborhood.

70' Vespa Sprint (2009 LML power)
74' Yamaha RD350 (pinger)
2008 Suzuki DRZ-400SM (thumper)
