Pothole Patrol

Postby normratscoots » Thu Jan 09, 2014 12:14 pm

Restarting this because of the weather. Please post scooter-killing potholes and other road hazards. Noticed a huge ice slick on Route 1 in Hyattsville, across from the court house in the northbound right lane. That stretch isn't well lit at night.

Update: A fatal accident happened at the above mentioned ice slick on Monday morning (1/13).http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/hyattsville-pedestrian-dies-after-car-hits-ice-crashes-into-him/2014/01/13/46bb5e6c-7ccc-11e3-9556-4a4bf7bcbd84_story.html

Im in Fort Meyers right now... the only road hazards are the octogenarians in Lexi and the squids in tshirts, shorts and flip flops (how do you ride a bike in flip flops?) And no lid.

If you're currently in Florida, you've got a lot more to worry about than that.

Is this what you're concerned about?

High Wind Warning Feb. 21

Postby normratscoots » Thu Feb 20, 2014 5:23 pm

For those of use with scooters that live outside, under covers, there's an extreme wind warning for Feb. 21.

From WTOP:
"A very potent cold front will get your attention between 10 am and 2 pm tomorrow…from west to east across the area. First, a push a warmer air will precede the cold front tomorrow morning. That will cause a steady increase in wind from the southwest. Temperatures will slowly increase, as well.
During the time period described above, as the well- defined front advances eastward, numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop along the leading edge of the front. Winds, just a few thousand feet above the ground, will be blowing at speeds of 60 to 70 mph. Very heavy showers…squalls…could bring some of those strong winds down the surface.
That means we have the potential for wind damage in areas. And it may turn out we will be placed under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings while there is very little, if any, lightning and thunder. Add to this, the extremely wet soil conditions…it is possible some trees could fall. Snapped branches and other effects from high winds will be possible…especially at higher elevations. By later tomorrow afternoon, high pressure will start rebuilding into the region and will provide an absolutely beautiful weekend…especially by late-February standards."

Outbound on Rhode Island Ave, from just above North Cap, over top of the hill and down to 4th St NE is ripped up all to hell. Medium depth potholes like a mine field and loose gravel all around. Same goes for under the the metro overpass. Kind of fun on my big dirt bike, wouldn't want to hit this at speed on a scooter.
