WTF with my Hesher-ism

Postby epsato » Wed May 18, 2011 4:27 pm

I fucking HATED generic late 70s early 80s rock, glam rock and most heavy metal (DRI exempted) as a teen. Then again, I hated Snoop Dogg back then too.

Now, I can't stop listening to Queen, Eddie Money and all that old fogey stuff they play on 100.3. What the hell is wrong with me? I hated that stuff when it came out, but now I'm actually fiending it.

I mean, I haven't lost my post-hipster flavor for soul music, salsa, non gangstery hip hop and indy rock, but somehow I feel as if I've betrayed my roots by enjoying an Aerosmith song. Should I just not care and rock out? Or have I sold out without realizing it?

Don't feel bad, I've taken to listening to classical music sometimes when working and I used to absolutely loath classical. Shit, I'll even listen to country and western if I am out fishing with some good 'ol boys.
I believe it's because you listen to your favs over and over and they get boring and as you get older, the new stuff coming out just sounds like recycled favorites, so there is a need to listen to something different.
That's not going anywhere

Conversely, I went through a classical music phase and now I loathe listening to it. I think its better to be open minded then be stuck in the same habits.

Oh that's nothing. Unsolicited thought this morning, upon hearing the first few bars of Jukebox Hero on the radio, "isn't it totally time for someone to cover this"?

Yeah, that's me. Down with the Foreigner in my old age. Go figure.

Okay, so I haven't gone crazy then.

Jamming out to "two tickets to paradise" really spooked me the other day...

I hate the term "classical" music because it doesn't mean shit.

I just assumed it was music that was made around the same time you entered your 20s.

I can understand Queen, but the only reaction I get when I hear one of those other bands playing on the Safeway PA system is, "What sucked then sucks now."
"In this grave hour fuck fuck fuck perhaps the most fateful in our history bugger shit shit."
