Lambretta 6v LED rear light upgrade

Postby fredneckscoots » Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:59 pm

My taillight was pretty dim on my S3 so I thought I would try this LED light from Jet 200 http://jet200.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1632

What a HUGE difference. I can ride at night now and it only took 5 minutes to install.

OK... I need to come clean on this. This FANTASTIC upgrade only lasted me 2 days and then blew out. Easy electrical upgrade + vintage scooter = bullshit.

DLo can probably explain better than I can, but from my understanding: old shit made in the 60's isn't really set up to work flawlessly with new shit made in 2012.

Think you may need a "regulated" electrical system and apparently my li125 is "unregulated" (though really it is both cause the pilot light regulates... or something like that). They offer a 12v also... which given how bright my 6v LED was when working is probably still a good bet.

Oh well, it was a nice thought. I'm going back to OG and try some diffferent bulbs and Juan Pablo can now sleep at night knowing my tail light is original.

Ayup....good thing too....the raid on your place. Have to call all that off now.

All that aside, I bet it would work fine for a battery bike, like a Serveta, or any older Lambretta that had a battery from the factory.....which is a regulated DC.....unlike your AC system....

A big ole Zener diode should fix your problem. I got one for the same problem, bout the size of a matchbox.

This would work, but you need to find a way to insulate it:

I'm sure there are some motorcycle sites that have something in a package to install on a bike.
