repacking

Postby normratscoots » Thu May 31, 2007 1:04 pm

Is the core on a JL left-side exhaust floating or fixed at one end? In other words, I need to repack and want to know whether I need to drill out the rivets on both ends of the can, or just the rivets that hold on the cap. -- Ryan, who will probably be bringing a really loud P to parts of the rally for lack of free time to get this done.

Closing thoughts for the record: a JL-clone SIP has a fixed exhaust core, meaning that it is welded to the end of the expansion chamber. The can fits around it an the cap, for no really good reason, is a separate piece from the can. With a repack done, my P is still loud, but in a lot less obnoxious way. Increasing and decreasing revs is now much smoother -- I had a detonation problem that seems to be cured -- and perhaps it provided more high-end performance. The next time I work with fiberglass, I'm wearing a long-sleeve shirt. -- Ryan
