There are more bald eagles now than for a long, long time on the James. Being top of the food chain, they know a thing or two.
I would not eat a catfish from below the fall line. However, in the spring when the andromanous fish(stripers(rockfish), herring, shad, white perch) are running, there is some fine eating to be had. Pan fish and small catfish from above the fall line go nicely betwix some tortillas and being their life span is short, they aren't picking up the nasties...Most of the nasties are below the fall line in the mud. Above the fall line, the sediment is churned up and rolls downstream after every storm.
