Possibly Stolen PX150

Postby epskalaw » Mon Aug 09, 2010 11:27 am

Someone brought in a scooter they "found" at 9th and Mass. NW. They are currently riding it around but plan on returning on Wednesday.

Damage: lock drilled/pulled out, crash damage on all side and currently has broken front brake lever and right rear turn signals.

Details: Looks to be an '85 PX150. Older flat black paint job, mismatched tires and a Millennium style halogen headlight. It also sports a Big Wheel Bikes sticker on the frame near the center mat, choke, fuel control lever area.

I can only assume the bike is stolen but the current "owner" says he went to the cops and it did not come up as stolen in their database.

It reminds me of a bike I often saw parked in Adam's Morgan about a block East of the intersection of Ontario and Columbia. I haven't ridden through the area to see if that other bike is still around.

Let me know if the bike rings any bells and if someone knows the legitimate owner.

Call Chelsea. Scoots being stolen around here like no ones business. They are even getting jiggy with big f#@k off lock cutters. We're talking two and three a night, mostly T'n G's though.
That's not going anywhere

Will do though I am pretty sure this was a local steal and dump job.

Saw it being ridden around my neighborhood on Friday or so. Black kid, younger, no helmet, etc. I've seen the bike before, but not with that guy riding it.

The guy riding it is probably in his 30s, wears a half helmet (probably a decision after his crash which cracked the engine case around the kickstart lever shaft), and the side panels now sport a flat blue krylon job.

so is he thinking he's going to keep the scooter? I guess why not, if no one claims it. I can't imagine that the owner wouldn't file a police report though.

He is debating whether he should keep it or not. Someone offered him $650 so the scoot could be shipped to Africa. He likes the bikes but is concerned about the existing damage and really has his eyes on a Stella as a courier bike. I told him that may not be the best idea considering the limited warranty but he is exploring his options.

I'm still trying to find the actual owner of the bike but without a police report and supporting documentation (say a title or bill of sale) the original owner may be SOL.

$650 to ship to Africa? To Nigeria? As in, they send him $3000, he uses $1000 for the shipping and sends them $1000 cash and keeps the other $1000 for his effort and the bike?

That will go well.

Saw a blue P series on the Penn Ave bridge last week, driven by a guy with just a hat on. Didn't see if there were tags, was going in the other direction into the city. Same bike?
